The 15 Brain Elements

The Torah reveals 92 fundamental elements: 86 + 6. Among the 86 elements that combine, 15 are called the “brain” of creation: as the brain commands the body, these 15 elements have a role of direction and command. Without them, the 71 metallic elements would be raw matter without “intelligence.”

Summary: 92 elements; 86 combine; 6 noble gases do not combine; among the 86, 15 non-metals (the brain) and 71 metals (the load-bearing structure).

According to Kabbalah, the Name א־להים has a double dimension. The letters י ה (10 + 5 = 15), passive nature, called מוחין (brain), direct and command. The letters א לם (71), active nature, load-bearing structure, “mute” (without a brain), support and execution.

What exists on the metaphysical level is found on the physical level. The course’s image: as a computer’s processor commands the “mute” components, the 15 elements are the processor that animates the 71 metallic elements.

“For with the two letters of His Name, G-d created the worlds” (Isaiah 26).

The Talmud (Menachot 29b) asks which letter created this world and which the upper world: the letter י (10) created the upper, spiritual world; the letter ה (5) the lower, material world. If י-ה (15) are the base on the metaphysical level, they are on the physical level: the 15 non-metallic elements.

איש (man) + י; אשה (woman) + ה. According to the course, י-ה form a Divine Name marking the Divine Presence between man and woman. Written in full, יוד + הא = 6 + 20 = 26 = יהוה.

According to our Sages, if the Divine Presence departs (disregard of the laws of family purity), what remains is אש, fire, which devours. When G-d, man and woman unite: איש (311) + אשה (306) + הקב״ה (1) = 618, the “golden number” (according to the course).

Their names were first אברם and שרי. G-d transforms them into אברהם (added letter: ה) and שרה (transformed letter: ה).

Before this name change, Abraham and Sarah were barren; afterwards they could bear Isaac and the entire people of Israel. According to the course, י-ה are thus the basis of our existence as a people.
