The Letter Qof
Holiness, and what resembles it without being it

The qof came forward in the name of קָדוֹשׁ (kadosh), holy.

It was answered: holiness must remain set apart; it does not found the material world.

And through you also begins קוֹף (qof), the ape — the one who imitates.

Its value is one hundred: a whole cycle closed.

1 The Zohar account
“Master of the world, create the world through me, for through me begins kadosh. You are thrice holy.”

The answer came: you are the letter of My holiness, and precisely for that reason you cannot found the material world: the holy remains set apart from the profane. And through you also begins the ape, and the curse. You carry the imitation of holiness as much as holiness.

2 Imitation

The word qof means the ape: the one who reproduces gestures without understanding them.

The letter sets holiness and its counterfeit side by side. The resemblance is what makes the counterfeit dangerous.
3 The value one hundred

One hundred: ten times ten, a complete cycle closed upon itself.

The qof descends below the line — one of the few letters to reach downward: holiness that goes down to the lowest places.
