The Letter Shin
Fire, peace — and the falsehood that stands badly

The shin came forward in the name of שַׁדַּי (Shaddai) and of שָׁלוֹם (shalom), peace.

It was answered that it also opens שֶׁקֶר (sheker), falsehood.

Falsehood stands on three narrow legs, like the three branches of the shin; truth stands on steady bases.

It is a letter of fire: too burning to found.

1 The Zohar account
“Master of the world, create the world through me, for through me begins Shaddai, and I am also the first letter of shalom, peace.”

The answer came: you carry peace and My power, but through you also begins sheker, falsehood. And you are a letter of fire: too burning for a world that needs stability.

2 Three legs

The letters of sheker each stand on a narrow foot; those of emet, truth, on broad bases.

What the shapes say: falsehood stands for a moment, truth stands a long time.
3 Fire, and the value

The shin is the letter of fire, which transforms what it touches — and can also consume everything.

Three hundred: the shin is engraved on the head tefillin, with three branches on one side and four on the other.
