It is the spiritual operating system of the Jewish people: six chapters of ethical wisdom transmitted from Moses at Sinai down through Joshua, the Elders, the Prophets, the Men of the Great Assembly, Hillel, Shammai, Rabbi Akiva, Rabbi Yehuda HaNasi and beyond.
It is customary to study one chapter every Shabbat afternoon between Pesach and Shavuot — and in many Sephardic communities, all the way through the summer until Rosh Hashanah.
