The Letter Tav
The tav came forward first, though it is the last letter.
It came forward because it ends אֱמֶת (emet), truth — the seal.
It was answered: you are My seal, and through you also begins what speaks of death.
Its value is four hundred, the highest of the simple letters.
The answer came: you are worthy, and you are My seal of truth. But precisely because you are so precious, you cannot begin creation. And through you also begins what speaks of death.
אֱמֶת (emet) begins with the alef, passes through the mem and ends with the tav: first, middle and last — truth takes it all.
The tav is the mark: what is written at the end to say that the thing is finished and that it is true.
Four hundred: the highest value of the simple letters, and the last place in the alphabet.
Whoever has gone through the Torah “from alef to tav” has gone through all of it. The letter carries completion.
