The man seated in the shadows wore no uniform, but his posture betrayed decades of command. He slid a bristol card toward himself with one finger. The subject, Mendel Karmi, was described in a few dry lines. Former prodigy of the Ponevezh Yeshiva. Former precision shooter with the Duvdevan unit. The man in the dark suit didn't flinch. He brought the flame of a Storm lighter to the corner of the card. The paper curled instantly.
